HISTORY OF UNACEPTABLE SEA TRANSPORTATION
During the period after 1994, when Australia converted old oil tankers “slave ship style” to
transport thousand of live sheep and goats at a time, LAWA sent renowned veterinary scientist,
Dr Heim Ebbedes, to Austriala to observe the loading process and thereafter the offloading at
the port of destination. The report he delivered to the minister of agriculture was sufficient for
South Africa to ban the import of live slaughter animals.
