A draft document with regards to guidelines for the transportation of live animals by sea, was sent out for public comment by the department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development on the 31st March 2021. LAWA studied the document and sent their comments to the department, which basically stated that LAWA does not support the guidelines and rather recommend that South Africa follow the example set by New Zealand by banning the live export (as well as imports) of slaughter stock. It can later be followed by attending to the tariffs issue.
